Numerous foundations host 5K races as fundraisers.  The Terrebonne Education Foundation for Academic Excellence in Houma, Louisiana hosted a successful 5K race with an estimated 1,500 runners.  The event included 60 business sponsors and 40 organizations hosting food booths.

The event’s increased participation is due to its new status as “a regional championship for the Road Runners Club of America”.  According to Philip Martin, Chief Administrator of the Terrebonne Public School system, “A regional race attracts more runners, and a bigger food festival will draw larger crowds which adds up to more money for the foundation and, ultimately, local schools.  There’s a win-win for everybody involved.
